“The class is supportive, the atmosphere encouraging, all levels of experience are catered for. We also laugh a lot. I have gone to different writing classes and workshops over the years but feel I have gained most from this one.” Juni Parkhurst
This is an informal, friendly and welcoming group of mixed ability, ranging from complete beginners to people who have had stories published or on radio, or won competitions. The workshop covers all prose forms – short stories, novels, autobiography or memoir – and will give you the technical knowhow and individual feedback to enable you to improve your skills and develop as a writer. The sessions are structured around weekly writing assignments, or you are welcome to work on your own project.
Work will be read aloud in class and feedback given on all technical aspects of writing. We also do some freewriting in class, and short writing exercises or discussion where time allows.
Some of us stay on for lunch in the café after the class, so it is a sociable as well as a learning environment.
Umi Sinha has had short stories published in magazines and anthologies and her novel “Belonging” was published by Myriad Editions in September 2015. She has an MA with Distinction in Creative Writing from the University of Sussex and for ten years taught on the highly respected Certificate in Creative Writing programme there, which has produced many published writers. She now teaches on the MA in Creative Writing at Brighton University.
